Specialist Disability Accommodation [SDA]
Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) consists of a wide range of housing plans designed for individuals with an extreme level of functional impairment or any other high need. SDA home plans are made to provide easy access to the participant. It also facilitates the delivery of many other supportive materials that the client may need. At the same time, it also involves sharing a home with a lesser number of other people.
Details
An individual can live in Specialist Disability Accommodation by themselves if the option chosen best meets the requirements and the prevailing situation. On average, SDA funding incurs the cost of the house or building the client lives in, which is generally the rent along with other personal expenditure while living in the SDA. However, SDA funding doesn’t include the services or provide the support you might get in your home.
It doesn’t mean that each participant with a disability needs SDA. People with high disabilities who need constant supervision need such specialized homes with intensely personal and physical support.
The design standards of SDA are in sync with the Australian National Construction Code. The specialist disability accommodation thus complies with four different categories, namely:
Improved Living
Vigorous Construction
Fully Accessible
High Physical Support
These requirements are placed well to ensure that the client can safely access the high-quality Specialised Disability Accommodation, which is meant to meet their needs.
